An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he managed.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC explained objects including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the police a second time.
She explained the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five children.
