2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct vision.

The president noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete text from Ismailer's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a sharper identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the incoming Lead of the team. Following several months of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His management and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to continue witnessing the development of the game in the time to come.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in October 2024 together with a early access event. Initially, the developers presented the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Face the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that change every round. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, risk it all, and trust your group can secure victory? The decision is yours."

The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can anticipate additional details as creation progresses.
